Release the Hounds!

We babysat our good buddy Oscar yesterday, and was that ever entertainment! After a bit of authority establishment, the two were inseparable, rolling, playing, wrestling and sleeping...I got some good shots of the "tug-o-war" game they played for quite a while. I don't think I've laughed so hard! ;)

My Buddy...

Elena really loves Diva, and has been so good about "loving her puppy". Here's some fun shots of them cuddling.

A New Addition

We've been talking babies with all the new nephews being born...here's another baby! We adopted a beautiful little Maltese puppy named Diva from the York Family. I met Courtney at the Mrs. Illinois America pageant this year. They are a loving, sweet family who obviously took incredible care of Diva because she has the most darling personality, and because they took great care and time in choosing just the right home for her. We feel very blessed and very touched that they would entrust us with their little one, we love her already, and we are very grateful.

So without further ado, here's Diva...She fell in love with Elena's chair right off the bat. She also has no concept of her size as she took on one of Eric's slippers in a wrestling match....they're the same size! Elena has been calling her "Miss Diva"...very cute. :)

The Ant and the Contact Lens: A True Story

This was sent to me and now I pass it on. If it's a comfort to anyone as it has been to me, then I am glad to have passed it on this way!

Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff . She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens.

"Great", she thought. "Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry..."

She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge... But it just wasn't there. She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens. When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse "The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth." She thought, "Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is… Please help me."

Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, "Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?" Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it!

The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, "Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You."

I think it would do all of us some good to say, "God, I don't know why You want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if You want me to carry it, I will."

God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

Yes, I do love GOD. He is my source of existence and my Savior. He keeps me functioning each and every day Without Him, I am nothing, but with Him....I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13)

Nice Evenings

I love our backyard...It's a nice retreat at the end of the day or the beginning of the weekend. These were taken Friday when it finally cleared up and we had a nice sunset and a nice fire. It made me think that as we go through things during the week how quickly we look forward to evening, and weekends, and freedom from things that bring us down. Looking at this sunset reminds me of God's beauty, what He creates for us so that we can praise Him and see Him, in ALL things, and be uplifted and encouraged. We shouldn't wish our time away, and we should look forward to the next day with renewed hope. I hope today will be a day that, if you are wishing for sunset, it may be a beautiful one for you and that you will look forward to sunrise and what God has planned for you.

Psalm 141
O LORD, I call to you; come quickly to me. Hear my voice when I call to you.
May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.
Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.
Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil, to take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers; let me not eat of their delicacies.
Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness; let him rebuke me—it is oil on my head.
My head will not refuse it.
Yet my prayer is ever against the deeds of evildoers; their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs, and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken.
They will say, "As one plows and breaks up the earth, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave. "
But my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death.
Keep me from the snares they have laid for me, from the traps set by evildoers.
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety.

Enjoy your evenings, enjoy your families, give thanks and praise to the Lord, who makes all things new and all things right! Again, may your evening sunset be beautiful and remind you of the sunrise to come!

Revelation 21:4-5
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

Has Anyone ever had this happen to you?

This has actually been circulated a couple times, and each time I've gotten it, I've laughed so hard my sides hurt...until...this last time I received it.
I felt complete and utter sympathy for this poor woman. I have not had this extent of embarrassment, but I did recently have this type of conversation with my child...OH, the humanity of it all! I signed my life away too, when it comes to pride, dignity, and any ounce of privacy. And I wouldn't trade it for the world. Being a mom is priceless. Nothing else in this world takes more effort, more concentration, more time, more "everything" than motherhood. It is the art of learning selflessness because you can no longer be selfish. It changes you...let it...it is one of the best changes you will ever experience. Happy Friday.
The Story...
A 3-year-old tells all from his mother's restroom stall.By Shannon Popkin My little guy, Cade, is quite a talker. He loves to communicate and does it quite well. He talks to people constantly, whether we are in the library, the grocery store or at a drive-thru window. People often comment on how clearly he speaks for a just-turned- 3-year-old. And you never have to ask him to turn up the volume. It's always fully cranked. There have been several embarrassing times that I've wished the meaning of his words would have been masked by a not-so-audible voice, but never have I wished this more than last week at Costco.

Halfway, through our shopping trip, nature called, so I took Cade with me into the restroom. If you'd been one of the ladies in the restroom that evening, this is what you would have heard coming from the second to the last stall:

''Mommy, are you gonna go potty? Oh! Why are you putting toiwet paper on the potty, Mommy? Oh! You gonna sit down on da toiwet paper now? Mommy, what are you doing? Mommy, are you gonna go stinkies on the potty?''

At this point I started mentally counting how many women had been in the bathroom when I walked in. Several stalls were full ... 4? 5? Maybe we could wait until they all left before I had to make my debut out of this stall and reveal my identity.Cade continued:

''Mommy, you ARE going stinkies aren't you? Oh, dats a good girl, Mommy! Are you gonna get some candy for going stinkies on the potty? Let me see doze stinkies, Mommy! Oh ... Mommy! I'm trying to see In dere. Oh! I see dem. Dat is a very good girl, Mommy. You are gonna get some candy!''

I heard a few faint chuckles coming from the stalls on either side of me. Where is a screaming new born when you need her? Good grief. This was really getting embarrassing. I was definitely waiting a long time before exiting. Trying to divert him, I said, ''Why don't you look in Mommy's purse and see if you can find some candy. We'll both have some!''

''No, I'm trying to see doze stinkies""Oh! Mommy!'' He started to gag at this point. ''Uh - oh, Mommy. I fink I'm gonna frow up. Mommy, doze stinkies are making me frow up!!Dat is so gross!!'' As the gags became louder, so did the chuckles outside my stall.. I quickly flushed the toilet in hopes of changing the subject. I began to reason with myself: OK. There are four other toilets. If I count four flushes, I can be reasonably assured that those who overheard this embarrassing monologue will be long gone.

''Mommy! Would you get off the potty, now? I want you to be done going stinkies! Get up! Get up!'' He grunted as he tried to pull me off Now I could hear full-blown laughter. I bent down to count the feet outside my door. ''Oh, are you wooking under dere, Mommy? You wooking under da door? What were you wooking at? Mommy? You wooking at the wady's feet?'' More laughter. I stood inside the locked door and tried to assess the situation. ''Mommy, it's time to wash our hands, now. We have to go out now, Mommy.'' He started pounding on the door. ''Mommy, don't you want to wash your hands? I want to go out!!''

I saw that my wait 'em out' plan was unraveling. I sheepishly opened the door, and found standing outside my stall, twenty to thirty ladies crowded around the stall, all smiling and starting to applaud. My first thought was complete embarrassment, then I thought, where's the fine print on the 'motherhood contract' where I signed away every bit of my dignity and privacy? But as my little boy gave me a big, cheeky grin while he rubbed bubbly soap between his chubby little hands, I thought, I'd sign it all away again, just to be known as Mommy to this little fellow.

Six Flags

Now that summer has begun, so have season passes at Six Flags...Elena LOVES the Lady Bug ride...there's a My Little Pony Song about Lady Bugs, so this is huge for her. Grateful to be there to have fun together...By the way, the picture of Elena in the helicopter is especially important/meaningful to me, because my parents have a picture of me when I was her age in a helicopter ride just like this with my friend Pammy when I was little...I love moments like these...She also enjoys the bees and tea cups...
